With the advent of Check 21, substitute checks can be created on behalf of the original document and are considered the legal equivalent of the original paper item. The intention of Check 21 was to facilitate the opportunity for image exchange. 

Image exchange offers our customers expedited settlement of their forward items.  Checks can clear as much as 2-3 days sooner than traditional paper allowing for better funds availability. You also gain the benefit of faster notification of returns information.  A completely new settlement process, this infrastructure is still being expanded to bring full functionality to the entire settlement network. 

Through our decisioning models, all non-ACH eligible items processed by Solutran are deposited through image exchange.  Whether the item is ultimately settled as an image is dependent on the receiving banks capability to process incoming image files.
